About the Ability-to-Benefit Training Program

What is the Ability-to-Benefit Training Program?

The Ability-to-Benefit (ATB) Training Program is our online course to prepare you for the Accuplacer test.

What is the Accuplacer test?

The Accuplacer test is a standardized test that is approved by the U.S. Department of Education to assess a student’s grade-level competency. It is not a timed test, so you can take as long as you need to complete it.

Why do I need to take the Accuplacer test?

The Accuplacer test is part of the Higher Education Act of 1965, Section 484(d) that allows a student who does not have a high school diploma, its recognized equivalent, or who did not complete a secondary school education in a home school setting to qualify for Pell Grant funding through the Ability-to-Benefit program.

What are the necessary steps?

  1. Take the first ATB practice test to identify your areas that need improvement.
  2. Review the necessary ATB lessons.
  3. After you pass both ATB practice tests, apply to the college of your choice.
  4. Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  5. Your college’s financial aid office will schedule an appointment for you to take your official Accuplacer Test.
